HONEY BEES

During our first Spring at the McIntosh Field & Flower property in 2020, we were surprised at the lack of pollinators in our gardens. Determined to do something (and after extensive research and on-going training), Tara took the leap into beekeeping the following year. The Farm is now home to 3 thriving honey bee colonies. We hope to add more each year!

Welcoming new hives.

Over the years, we have sourced our honey bee “starts” from fabulous apiaries in Middle Tennessee and North Georgia.

Forage for the bees.

Unfortunately, not all flower farmers love to see pollinators covering their blooms like we do. The reasoning is that pollinators can damage delicate blooms and accelerate the aging of the fresh blooms, thus damaging product.

We believe that the unquantifiable benefits honey bees provide far outweigh the potential risk of damaged blooms here on the farm. Our honey bees (and other local pollinators) are free to enjoy the blooms.

Honey.

An added bonus of keeping bees on the property is a nearly endless supply of fresh, raw honey. We are grateful to be able to share this bounty.
